Cook It: High Life Brats

Cook It: High Life Brats

Wisconsin knows a lot of things, but perhaps the three they know best are beer, cheese and brats. This recipe brings all three together into something that’s just perfect for warm summer parties or to chase those cold winter blues away. It also proudly features the Champagne of Beers, Miller High Life. It’s a bright, easy-drinking lager that is great both in and out of a glass as you’ll see with this bit of mouthwatering comfort from “America’s Dairyland.”

4 Bottles of Miller High Life

10 Bratwurst (Go raw, not that precooked nonsense)

1 Large Sliced Onion

1 Tablespoon of Garlic Salt

12 Brat Buns

Step 01

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

Step 02

While that’s heating, submerge your brats in the Miller High Life in a large pan. Add the garlic salt and onion. Stir and bring to a boil. Cook the brats about 10-12 minutes like that.

Step 03

Place the brats on your preheated grill. You should only need to turn them once. You’re just looking to brown them and make sure they’re cooked through. That should take 10 minutes max. Bring them back inside.

1/2 Bottle of Miller High Life

3 cups shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese

2 Tablespoons of Butter

2 Tablespoons of Flour

1 Cup of Milk

1 Tablespoon of French’s Yellow Mustard

1/2 Tablespoon of Onion Salt

PROCESS (Continued)

Step 04

In a medium saucepan on medium-low heat, melt the butter and whisk in the flour and milk, adding a little bit of milk at a time and whisking until the mixture is smooth before adding more.

Step 05

Add the High Life, French’s yellow mustard and onion salt. Stir and heat through until mixture is bubbling frequently.

Step 06

Add your cheese, one cup at time, whisking until smooth and melted before adding the next cup. Add additional onion salt to taste.

Step 07

Serve the brats, buns and cheese dip with bottles of Miller High Life. You’ll see smiles all around as your guests dip their High Life brats in that ooey-gooey cheese sauce.
