Make the Hell Raiser, a Boozy and Buzzy Coffee Cocktail
Pix and Story :: Anastacia Uriegas
You have a bottle of coffee liqueur, but what the heck are you supposed to do with it? Drink it on the rocks? Nah. Add a nip to your coffee? Meh. How about a cocktail? Hmm. Any amount of interwebz research will turn up the same thing: a White Russian recipe (coffee liqueur, vodka, cream) the milky drink made famous by cult film The Big Lebowski and its bathrobe-clad main character’s penchant for the deceivingly tame drink. However, like many holiday-inspired or cream-based drinks, White Russians are so rich that drinking more than one will have you reaching for some Pepto (or worse, Immodium). So, we created a cocktail which uses coffee liqueur in a more modern and refined manner as in the way an actual mixologist would! The Hell Raiser combines tequila, sweet vermouth, coffee liqueur--we used Austin-made Caffe del Fuego for it’s high quality ingredients and light texture--a few dashes of Angostura bitters and fiery Bitterman’s Hellfire Habanero Shrub. The finishing touch is a spritz of orange peel oil expressed directly from the peel. We think the Dude would approve.
