Make It: The Aperol Sour
2 Ounces of Aperol
3/4 Ounce of Lemon
1/4 Ounce of Simple Syrup
Orange Wedge for Garnish
Add all ingredients to your shaker and shake without ice. This will emulsify your egg and give the cocktail a nice, foamy top. Add your ice and shave vigorously. Strain into your serving glass. Garnish and serve to waiting smiles.
A closely related sister to Campari in taste, sugar content and manufacture, Aperol was created in northern Italy in the early part of the 20th century. Aperol is complex, with flavors ranging from bitter and sweet orange to rhubarb to the flower gentiana and shrub cinchona (among others). It starts sweet and light and finishes bitter and dry. Aperol has a low alcohol content, about 11%, so that makes this cocktail a great way to enjoy a treat on the lighter side.
