It's National Bloody Mary Day: Celebrate With This 90’s-Kid Inspired Version

Pix and Story :: Anastacia Uriegas

That's right, January 1 is more than just New Year's Day. It's also our national day to fete the beloved tomato-based cocktail, the Bloody Mary. Bonus!

You may have seen it garnished with bacon, cheese cubes, celery or even the rare oyster (depending on where you live). However, bars are taking their garnish game to an extreme level. In the wild, we’ve encountered the formerly tame drink partnered with 90’s after-school favorites like Totino’s Party Pizza, Bagel Bites, and the very authentic (lol, jk) “Taquitos”. This iteration happens to be our favorite and now you can make it too! The first step requires a trip to the frozen aisle of your local grocery store, where you’re guaranteed a flashback of middle school spin-the-bottle. Fill your cart with the brightly colored boxes of your adolescence; follow your heart, there is no wrong combination. Grab some Slim Jims (try not to snap into it just yet), plenty of limes and lemons, a good bloody mix like Zing Zang, and your choice of spirit--vodka is the most obvious but gin and whiskey impart a more unique flavor.

Now go! Bloody Mary greatness awaits!
